While Ginger is almost certainly purebred chow -- she has a purple tongue and sure looks like a chow bear -- she acts like a golden retriever. She is friendly, loves people, is good with some dogs (we have a video of her playing with a golden we'd be happy to send you, as we can't post it here), quiet, easygoing and loves belly and butt rubs.
She would do well as an only dog but would probably be OK with another dog if they got along. Shortly after we got her, she had entropion surgery to fix in-turned lower eyelids that were rubbing on her eyes. She also had femoral head ostectomy surgery to fix her hip dysplasia in both hips. She's now doing great. While it would be best for her to not overexert herself with a lot of running and jumping, she can engage in play with other dogs and people and go for walks.
Unlike most chows, Ginger kind of likes baths, and she's a sweetheart. Her groomer frequently comments that she isn't like other chows. She would make a great addition to a family with experience with dogs and, even better, experience with chows. She ideally needs a home with a fenced yard.
