Meet Evie, the German Short Haired Pointer. We donât know too much about her life before the Shelter. She came to us after her owner passed away. She is described as sweet and well behaved by a previous guardian. She is house trained, affectionate and enjoys toys. Any resident dogs in the home should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Evie in a home with cats or children.
Evie recently went on a sleepover at a volunteer's house. They report: `I have nothing but good things to say about Evie. She jumped in the car easily and laid down calmly for our ride home. She is easy to walk on leash, definitely enthusiastic, but does not pull. She has an impressive amount of energy for her senior age and I hope potential adopters are not scared away by her age. While she is ready for a long walk, she is just as happy snuggling on the couch. Evie is affectionate and would ideally like to be a lap dog, but is also happy cozy on her own if that's the vibe. She is definitely potty trained and knows some basic commands. She did not react when dogs passed by us or sniffed her. She seemed interested in the dogs sniffing, but was easily redirected.`
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!
Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
