Maki-Ato: 25-lb “Pocket Heeler” Ready for Adventure

Maki is a whole lot of Heeler in a compact package. She’s 3 years old and 25 lbs, smart, playful, and always up for learning something new. Give her a job, a game, or a walk, and she’s all in.

3 years old, 25 lbs, spayed female, Heeler mix

Potty-trained and crate-trained (she goes in on the cue “home” and loves her crate)

Spayed, vaccinated and healthy

Good to know: Maki is looking for a new home because her family has a new baby, and she's anxious around infants. With adults and older kids, she does great once she knows them, including regular visitors and 8-year-olds. She's wary of strangers who move toward her quickly, so let her approach on her own time. She's happy to relax in her crate when guests come over. She has some leash reactivity toward unfamiliar dogs and people, and it has improved a lot with a trainer.

Dogs: she loves to play and does best with a dog buddy her size or bigger, after a proper introduction.

Best fit: an active, Heeler-savvy home with adults or kids 8 and up, with no babies or toddlers. A playful dog in the home is a bonus. One walk a day isn't enough for her; she wants training, games, and a job to do.

Could Maki be your pocket-sized adventure buddy?

Doggie Harmony is a pet placement and matchmaking service that works with community members who are already housing a pet. Interested adopters are asked to apply at doggieharmony.org/forms and allow a home visit, so we can make sure each pet is a great match. Please ask the pet’s current caretaker directly about their return process, and request an adoption contract. While we can’t offer immediate intake for dogs that need to be returned, we’re always happy to help a family rehome a pet while they continue to care for it. Every match keeps a pet out of Georgia’s overcrowded shelters, where more than 30,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year.
