Hi! I'm Laura, a sweet and gentle girl with a curious little heart and a whole lot of love waiting to be shared. I may need a little encouragement when discovering new things, but with patience and kindness, I'm ready to blossom into a wonderful companion!
My story began when I was just 45 days old. My two siblings and I were found together in a kennel in a feeding area. Unfortunately, all three of us were suffering from a blood parasite infection. Thankfully, we received the treatment we needed, and we all recovered!
Since then, the shelter has been the only home I've ever known.
One of my siblings was lucky enough to find a wonderful forever family and now lives all the way in Miami! I'm so happy for my sibling, but I'm still here, patiently waiting for my own happy ending.
I've grown up surrounded by people and other dogs, so I've learned to be friendly and social. However, there's one thing I haven't had much of a chance to experience: the big world outside the shelter!
New places, unfamiliar sounds, and different environments can sometimes make me a little nervous, little adventure helps me become more confident.
I dream of having a family who will show me what it's like to live in a real home, sleep somewhere cozy, enjoy peaceful walks, and finally feel that I truly belong.
Once I feel safe and comfortable, my friendly personality has a chance to shine. All I need is someone willing to give me time, reassurance, and lots of love!
My ideal home would be with a patient, loving family who understands that I've spent my whole life in a shelter.
I'd love a family who will introduce me to new experiences gradually, help me build confidence, and teach me everything I need to know with kindness and positive reinforcement.
Energy Level: Moderate
I GET ALONG WITH:
Dogs: Yes! I'm well socialized with other dogs.
Cats: Unknown. I haven't been tested with cats.
Kids: Unknown. My interactions with children haven't been confirmed.
Fears: Since I've had limited exposure outside the shelter, unfamiliar places and new experiences can feel a little intimidating. Please be patient with me while I learn that the world is a safe and exciting place.
Training: I'm accustomed to staying in a crate, but I'll need guidance as I adjust to living in a home.
Leash Skills: I'm gradually learning to walk on a leash. Please be prepared to continue helping me practice and build confidence.
House Trained: No. I've grown up in a shelter, so I haven't had the opportunity to learn proper house-training routines in a home. Please be patient and help me learn where to go!
Health notes: As a young puppy, I was diagnosed with a blood parasite infection. I received treatment, made a full recovery, and am currently healthy.
My adoption fee is $850 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, provided a flight volunteer can accompany me directly to Vancouver.
Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.
Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.
Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.
While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be asked to pay a passenger fee on top of the cargo fee.
